Zombi-fied?
Last week, I threw away my old racing suit and helmet which I used back in my racingdays over 40 years ago. I wasn’t able to throw it away and had cherished it for a long time. I knew it couldn’t be used, the outside of them still seemed nice yet inside was deteriorated with a lot of mold, but my mind couldn’t let go of it, as if I was lingering on to my old glorious days. It was as if I was a zombie continuing to use a dead body.
I realized something similar could happen in our spiritual life. When we first believed inChrist, everything was new, fresh and so sure as if like old glorious days. That is because when we believed, it was a new discovery of faith, and a new conduct of faith, and as a result of our choice to believe, we were saved! However, if we only continue hold on to theway we believed then, only treasure the biblical knowledge from then, we will become a zombie believer without realizing. An alive faith in Christ is to be renewed by the Spirit daily by the living God. It is not that the old was bad, but in order to update to the new, we need to get rid of the old things. To put it in our recent wording, we need to uninstall them.
Christians should not be zombi-fied. Those who yearns after the Lord are daily renewed with the old passing. Yesterday’s blessing was yesterday’s, and God gives us newblessings for today.
We were saved and set free from slave of sin to live a new life in Christ. That is not for the purpose of our own glory but of God’s. For this reason we are daily recreated into becoming a person of love and a holy one in the eyes of our God. The Holy Spirit will lead us, help us and give us strength in order to walk in such ways. This month, let us live a new life being renewed by Christ daily.
